Los Angeles-based MySpace , under fire for selling its user data, said today that it is not selling its data. The firm said that its data is already available--free of charge--to third party developers, as well as such services as Google and its real-time search; and that it only shares data that users have made public. MySpace said that the data has been available through the MySpace Developer Platform, and allows software to pull publicly available, real-time Mike Jones, co-President of MySpace, said in the company's blog that "if a user does not wish to share their Real Time Stream updates outside of their friends, he/she can adjust their Stream privacy settings in their account settings."

They not only have gotten bigger but they have an amazing track record of funding the biggest names in the sector: Cisco, Apple, Google, Facebook. As LA produced Applied Semantics that created AdSense and was bought by Google. We LA was a leader in lead generation (LowerMyBills), comparison shopping (PriceGrabber, Shopzilla), social networking (MySpace … I know, I know – Facebook won – but it was still a Los Angeles. People People either love it our hate it. All

MySpace trails T-Mobile's account information app and The Weather Channel's app in the store. Los Angeles-based social networking site is looking to court developers with the launch of a development contest, the MySpace Developer Challenge , the firm said recently. The site said the challenge will award $50,000 between winners submitting MySpace applications, which use the firm's Real-Time Stream API, Open Search API, Photo Upload API, or which integrate the service on the Apple iPhone. Judges MySpace said that entries will be accepted starting January 4th, with contest entries due February 24th. READ MORE>>

Andrew Thompson quit high school and built a web site that helped MySpace users decorate their pages. He promoted it by being a "MySpace whore," who amassed as many MySpace friends as he could and promoted his site to them, and by getting ranked high in Google search results. Updates for users on Los Angeles-based MySpace 's social networking service are now being indexed by Google in real-time, according to Mike Jones , Co-President of MySpace. Jones said Tuesday in a blog post that the implementation of the firm's MySpace Real-Time Search API went live on Google today, so that live updates form its users--including news, photos, and blog posts--are shown as part of search results on Google's search engine.

Los Angeles-based social networking site MySpace said today that the firm has launched an application for Google's Android mobile operating system. According to MySpace, its new MySpace Mobile experience is available via Android Market, and allows MySpace users to access the firm's mobile web site. The company also said it has integrated the Android app with Shazam, a mobile music discovery provider, Among features of the new applications are photo uploading from Android devices, ability to view and comment on photos, profiles, and bulletins; find and add friends; and more.

Los Angeles-based MySpace has released an upgrade to the firm's set of application programming interfaces, saying this morning that it has released an upgrade to MySpaceID, the firm's API for allowing other websites to access its information. According to MySpace, the upgrade includes new access to the activity stream of MySpace users, integration of OAuth and OpenID for authentication of users, and new developer resources to help developers create and manage applications. Among those resources are a new software development kit with libraries for connecting to MySpace via the PHP, Python, Ruby, .NET

Los Angeles-based social networking site MySpace , in a bid to connect with the "real-time" web, said early this morning at the LeWeb conference that it has launched a new, real-time API. According to MySpace COO Mike Jones, the firm is enhancing its MySpace Developer Platform to allow partners to access the firm's real-time data, including status updates, music, video, and photos. Twitter’s deals with Google and Microsoft (letting the two companies search Twitter in real-time) total $25 million and make the company profitable for 2009 , according to BusinessWeek.
