In what might be some new competition for Santa Monica-based Rubicon Project , the high profile ad optimization firm headed by Frank Addante, search engine giant Google told its advertisers late Wednesday that it will begin to offer similar capabilities in its AdSense program. Google said it will open its door to third party advertising networks, allowing the ads in those networks to compete with AdWords advertisers for ad space on publishers. Google said it will be certifying those networks, and will be rolling out the new service over the next few weeks. Rubicon Project

Google has 20,000-30,000. For me, its sites like TechCrunch, VentureBeat, Socaltech, PaidContent, PEHub, etc. Also, a long list of blogs through RSS feeds to Google Reader. While the topic of career counseling is not the focus of this blog, I get enough requests from people who want to break into the VC industry, I thought it was worthwhile to write a blog entry about it so I can refer people to my viewpoint. There are plenty of articles (Seth Levine has two posts on this topic that are relatively popular – first , second ) on the web you can find through a quick search

Irvine-based startup YouMail has just gotten a new competitor: search engine giant Google, which launched a significantly comparable service to YouMail's voice mail services. The venture backed startup--which has scored funding from the Tech Coast Angels and VantagePoint Venture Partners--appears to have significant overlap to Google's new Google Voice services.
Google, Google, released YouMail offers a voice mail service which allows cell phone users to preview their voicemail messages in email or on the web, convert those voicemails to text, and provide personalized phone greetings to callers, depending on who is calling.

Why not write more articles about Google, Yahoo, Facebook, etc. The reason socalTECH started (it used to be a side hobby I did as a software engineer, and has become it’s own business) was because of the misconception years ago that Southern California did not have any technology. socalTECH was started to focus on and highlight the innovation and technology being grown here in Southern California. I was recently talking with the CEO of a high tech startup here, and he asked me — why did I bother covering Southern California companies? Why not go big and focus on

socalTECH was first started in 1998, as a hobby of mine (now a business, mind you), when I was looking for a job. socalTECH isn’t just Southern California, we’ve got some lesser known (stealth?) You can’t pay to get news coverage on socalTECH, and we get insulted if you ask.
There’s a new craze on Facebook, where people are tagging their friends and posting “25 Random Things About Me”. The idea is to share random facts about yourself that other people might not know.
