Also I attended the inaugural Open Angel Forum in Los Angeles back in January and wrote about it here . Jason Calacanis started this initiative in response to the pay-to-play network of angel events that he despised. I’m

I just completed an exercise where I went out to hire a new associate for my VC firm, GRP Partners. We had more than 700 resumes, short-listed 65, interviewed 16 in one-hour meetings had 6 full-day interviews including a presentation by the candidate on a selected market opportunity and we did 3 finalist dinners to test cultural fit. But there are plenty of partners and successful entrepreneurs who don’t have MBAs. This is part of my ongoing series called “ Start-up Lessons .” 8221;

I look for that fighting spirit in those that present to me . She asked if she could fly the next day to meet with me and my partners. I I didn’t understand why she wanted to do this if she already had lined up such A-list investors but it was in a segment where GRP Partners is very strong so I it sort of made sense to me. The Tech Coast Angels is gearing up for its annual Fast Pitch event, which lets entrepreneurs tune their “elevator pitch” and present to a panel of venture capitalists and angels, later this month. The group has Mark Suster of GRP Partners , Richard Yen of Saban Ventures , Michael Rotgin of Shelter Capital Partners , and Richard Wolpert of the Mail Room Fund this year, and is now taking applications to pitch . I’ve pointed to it before, but Frank Peters has a good archive of one of the last winners — Leads360 — on his podcast web site.
