We looked around for literally eight to ten months, by having a couple of young people bring us companies, research papers on potential industries, and other information every day. They just can't reach into the class of freshmen, sophomores, or juniors to help companies get better candidates. I also found this interesting graphic of the changing needs around the CTO role in different size/type companies that somewhat echoes my experience. ( Roger Smith ) This helps explain where I normally play. My role is to work as part of the team to (1) understand related technologies and technical opportunities, (2) understand and help drive alignment around a vision of where the business should go, and (3) mesh those together to help make disciplined, proactive technical decisions. I generally am working as an acting CTO for about 3-4 start-ups or other companies at any one time.

I read the first three pieces of information and was trying to think of how I could help him. I went from being frustrated that I wasn't helping to pretty helpful based on this list. Most of them will be pretty receptive to someone who is looking to network to "get help on next steps in my career." For some reason over the past week, I've been asked by three different people I know about job opportunities that might fit them. Since, I've given them the same advice, I thought it was worth putting in my blog.

San Diego-based KidZui, a venture-backed startup which develops a kid-safe Internet browser, said Monday that it has added new social networking features and homework help to the firm's suite of services. In addition, KidZui rolled out a homework help tool which allows kids to find information about subjects they are studying at school. According to KidZui, the new KidZui--which is venture backed by Maveron, Emergence Capital Partners and First Round Capital--said that it will let kids aged 3-12 keep up and connect with their friends, express feelings and opinions, and share content.

El Segundo-based CarsDirect , the online automotive shopping and information site owned by Internet Brands, said Thursday that the firm will offer free online used car inventory listings to the unfortunate Chrysler and General Motors franchise dealers who were recently terminated by those auto brands. According to CarsDirect, the firm hopes to help those dealers drive sales during the transition period, explaining that a number of those dealerships are shifting to used cars. CarsDirect said it will give those dealerships 60 days of free used car listings on its network of sites, plus additional discounts on the service after those 60 days. READ MORE>>
