Los Angeles. People I believe you can attract people to relocate to Los Angeles but it’s likely that they’ll come from locations other than Northern California.
Los Angeles has a strategic asset : content creation skills – In order for the Internet to go mainstream you first needed the infrastructure to support it from networking equipment (Cisco, Juniper) to databases (Oracle) to search (Google) and more recently mobile devices (Apple). But People either love it our hate it. All All the stereotypes and caricatures are overblown.

My friend Mark Long recently asked me about networking in Los Angeles. Rather than write something just for Mark, I thought I would let everybody else know what the good, tech-oriented networking events are in Los Angeles.
There is tech networking in Los Angeles!”. Mark is a CTO, see, and his company, PortBlue , was recently acquired (congrats, Mark!). After transitioning to the new team, Mark was left to wonder, what now?

He was struggling to find high quality developers in Los Angeles. Just the kind of person I like to meet. :) But I was a bit surprised when he emphasized how hard it had been for them to find a web developer in Los Angeles. My flippant comment was, “If you do a Google search for Los Angeles web developer, you’ll find a LOT of people and firms.” His response was that he had done exactly that, but that the long list is not all that useful. Yesterday, I met with someone at the early stage of a startup. He has a great concept with some complexity

I'm hoping you can help me figure out who I should be connecting with on this. I find myself speaking at various venues in Los Angeles to tell people (most often service providers) about how I've used social media and particularly my blogs, LinkedIn, twitter and topic hubs as part of my own services business. These presentations always inspire people to do more with LinkedIn, create or improve their blog, and maybe do more with Twitter. Invariably I'm asked by an accountant, lawyer, wealth manager, placement specialist, insurance agent, etc.: How can I get

Great by Cliff Allen Business Networking Online who I had blogged about previously in Marketing, Startups and Networking in Los Angeles . Cliff's feedback: Your idea of "Visible Networking" can help people take the "glad to meet you" networking to the next level -- "glad to know you" relationships. I'm going to be working with people like Cliff and Steve Gilison (see Product Management In this post, Cliff provides some feedback on what works when you move towards doing business networking online. I'm trying to get the concept of visible

I'm happy to announce the launch of the Los Angeles Tech Content Community . The goal is to create a place where it's relatively easy to find current content and highly relevant content surrounding Los Angeles Technology. To be clear Los Angeles Tech is a jump off point. This is the beginning of a content community that collects and organizes the best content from blogs and web sites. The content comes from other places.

I've heard great things about their events. What's keeping you up at night? Closing our our round and dealing with all the inbound requests. You are a really great networker and help put on great networking events, what do you think about the concept of visible networking? They can figure out who they really want to connect with. What networking events in Los Angeles or Southern California do you go to? Kurt Daradics ( Facebook , @KurtyD , FriendFeed , MySpace , LinkedIn , Delicious ) (pronounced dare-a-dix) is a great guy to know. He recently

Welcome to Los Angeles, city of angels, demons and everything in-between. For those who are, I thought it might be helpful to share some of my own experiences.
I’ve had a rather in-depth look at the people and culture of the Los Angeles tech scene, both in person and virtually.
For one of a million reasons you may find yourself here, perhaps you’re even trying to make something happen in the tech space. Two years ago I was working some low-level web development job, even worse, I was doing it from Orange County.

My time in New York was a good nine lives ago, but my adventures in both Los Angeles and San Francisco are fresh and ripe for dissecting. LA techies have to work harder to be taken seriously because Los Angeles is the entertainment mecca of the world, not the tech capital. However, while both crowds love to love the city of San Francisco, San Franciscans love to loathe Los Angeles, which is understandable in some regards. There is a saying about three different magnificent cities I have lived in twice. “If If you are smart, you move to San Francisco.

I also blog at [link] and you can find me on twitter: @gilbola . What are you working on now? I’m currently working with several startups, helping them launch new web businesses. My clients are typically entrepreneurs who have other jobs and are looking for help to get their side projects going but don’t have the time or skill set to launch it themselves. One interesting It was great to hear from a long, lost colleague the other day. Steve Gilison worked as a market researcher and product manager at a startup where my company, TechEmpower , did the software / web
