LA was a leader in lead generation (LowerMyBills), comparison shopping (PriceGrabber, Shopzilla), social networking (MySpace … I know, I know – Facebook won – but it was still a big business).  If A great team from MySpace has created Gravity.  Gil We have started to build initiatives like Launchpad LA to help bring this community together and Los Angeles.  People People either love it our hate it.  All

Los Angeles-based MySpace has released an upgrade to the firm's set of application programming interfaces, saying this morning that it has released an upgrade to MySpaceID, the firm's API for allowing other websites to access its information. According to MySpace, the upgrade includes new access to the activity stream of MySpace users, integration of OAuth and OpenID for authentication of users, and new developer resources to help developers create and manage applications. Los Angeles-based MySpace said today that independent music distributor IODA will provide its catalog to MySpace music. According to MySpace, the partnership with IODA--the Independent Online Distribution Alliance--will add over one million new songs to its platform. IODA is a digital distribution company which helps record labels negotiate licenses, encode data, and track royalties. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. READ MOR
Los Angeles-based social networking site MySpace said today that the firm has launched an application for Google's Android mobile operating system. According to MySpace, its new MySpace Mobile experience is available via Android Market, and allows MySpace users to access the firm's mobile web site. The company also said it has integrated the Android app with Shazam, a mobile music discovery provider, to help its users Among features of the new applications are photo uploading from Android devices, ability to view and comment on photos, profiles, and bulletins; find and add friends; and more.
Los Angeles-based MySpace said Thursday that the firm has inked deals with several independent music providers, to distribute their music through MySpace Music . In addition, MySpace Music said the catalog of Wind-up Records will be available through a distribution deal the firm has with Sony Music Entertainment. San Diego-based RoyaltyShare helps track digital royalties for a number of record labels, the firm said it has inked agreements with Nettwerk Music Group, INgrooves, IRIS Distribution, and RoyaltyShare, which will result in adding "several hundred thousand" songs to its catalog.
Los Angeles-based MySpace is in a deal with SoundExchange , which collects music royalties, to help deliver unclaimed royalties to artists, MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta said over the weekend at the MIDEM conference in Cannes. According to Van Natta, SoundExchange has placed $14M of unclaimed royalties in escrow, and will help the social networking site find the 25,000 artists owed those royalties. Los Angeles-based MySpace and PayPal announced this morning that the two companies are teaming to help people collection donations for non-profit organizations. According to the firms, they have create a fundraising software--which they are calling the MySpace IMPACT / PayPal fundraising widget--which can be placed on any MySpace page. The widget can be used to donate money to the non-profit of a user's choice. The firms said that the widget is being used by The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff, Vanessa Hudgens, and others to raise money for nonprofit causes,
