Robin's latest startup is Internships.com (www.internships.com), an online site focused on aggregating internship opportunities and providing resources to potential interns. They just can't reach into the class of freshmen, sophomores, or juniors to help companies get better candidates. It helps to get to know people better. Native Linking to other blogs – For example, many people know that I love VentureHacks because it’s a great resource for entrepreneurs and I finally met Babak Nivi (aka Nivi). Notice As my blog started getting authentic traffic I stopped asking for this help.

I also found this interesting graphic of the changing needs around the CTO role in different size/type companies that somewhat echoes my experience. ( Roger Smith ) This helps explain where I normally play. My role is to work as part of the team to (1) understand related technologies and technical opportunities, (2) understand and help drive alignment around a vision of where the business should go, and (3) mesh those together to help make disciplined, proactive technical decisions. I generally am working as an acting CTO for about 3-4 start-ups or other companies at any one time.

I asked Jon Bischke , founder of eduFire how he empowers his site’s teachers to promote their classes–and thereby help eduFire grow. 8221; We like to impress upon our teachers to think to themselves not just as “I come to eduFire and students find me,” but also, “I come to eduFire and I have tools and resources to go out and reach an audience” via the platform that we have set up.

Rather they should get a part-time Acting CTO who can help close the gap. Of course, I have an advantage because I organize the LA CTO Forum . Bottom line – if as you recognize this gap, then reach out to get a slice of a CTO who can help bridge the gap. Founder Developer Gap I’m assuming that the founders understand what they generally want to do with the business and where the product should be going. It’s not comfortable on either side of the table. More on the Role of I’ve been having discussions with several people recently about the role of the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) in very early stage companies.

I'm hoping that others will help point me to other resources around this topic. A few things we discussed: Focus . I looked at a couple of specific examples, where I ask for help from my followers. You can see examples like eLearning Learning which gets more traffic than my eLearning blog. Other Thoughts Common questions I get at the end of a presentation like this are: Where can I go to get help getting going? Where I did a presentation about the use of Social Media to a great group of people who mostly are different kinds of service professionals (attorneys, accountants, consultants, etc.).

Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software said today that it has released new software aimed at the storage resource management market. According to Quest, the firm's new product, Storage Horizon, measures storage usage, helps with provisioning, and provides automated storage analysis and reporting. The new product is the firm's first product addressing the storage resource management (SRM) market. The SRM product comes from Quest's acquisition of storage software provider MonoSphere in January of this year. MonoSphere was venture backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Intel Capital,

According to Cornerstone OnDemand, Barry-Wehmiller will use its products to help foster growth and development of the company's workforce. Cornerstone OnDemand is venture backed by Bay Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners; the firm's software is used for managing human resources.
Santa Monica-based Cornerstone OnDemand, which develops software-as-a-service for talent and employee management, said this week that it has signed on Barry-Wehmiller Companies, a capital equipment provider and engineering consulting services firm. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed.
