I started out as screenwriter, went into local television, ran ad sales in the west for AOL and joined Facebook in the companies very early days. My management book, Ignited, was released in 2007 and serves a guide and champion for middle managers. Today I lead a small consultancy that helps advertising supported develop and scale the revenue producing sides of their businesses. so I feel I have an unbiased appreciation for BOTH Californias. But LA is not Silicon Valley and we don’t need to aspire to be so.  We So it’s always a trade-off.  You I believe you can attract people to relocate to Los Angeles but it’s likely that they’ll come from locations other than Northern California. I've helped organize the Los Angeles CTO Forum for almost 10 years. They are generally the senior most person responsible for custom software development, database design, database administration, web development, etc. In a recent conversation with a fellow CTO, we lamented about the fact that while there's very active software development and web development going on in Southern California and West Los Angeles, yet there didn't seem to be as much of a community around it. Luis Villalobos, founder of the Tech Coast Angels, passed away yesterday , leaving a huge whole in Southern California’s technology and angel community. Luis — who regularly emailed me when I was  late sending out my daily email — exemplified some of the traits which make So Cal’s angel community an asset to entrepreneurs here.
