I started out as screenwriter, went into local television, ran ad sales in the west for AOL and joined Facebook in the companies very early days. My management book, Ignited, was released in 2007 and serves a guide and champion for middle managers. Today I lead a small consultancy that helps advertising supported develop and scale the revenue producing sides of their businesses. Twiistup 6 took place last week and this time around, under new management, the event went through a few changes. This part of Twiistup was entirely new, previously the showoffs only had the ability to connect with the attendees at their booths.  Each Hanging out in the back lounge, I ran into the Co-founder of the Twiistup 5 fan favorite, Michael Broukhim, from Totspot. Instead of a one evening mixer that highlighted the showoffs and gave people a chance to mingle and get to know the companies, it was expanded to a two day conference with panels, and plenty of time for mingling.

They really need to take a look at how Twiistup , Mixergy and others are doing to both promote and help make their events better for attendees. A while ago I posted about Secret for Networking at Events - Prenetworking where I recommended that people should look at who's attending the event prior to going to the event in order to make their networking more effective. I've received a lot of positive feedback on the post.
I want to take you through a bit of what brought me here, because I think it will help explain what I mean by visible networking. Networking Events – Questionable Return on Your Time Last week I posted about Networking Events in Los Angeles and Southern California and received back some interesting comments, some of the best from a LinkedIn Group. Mark mentioned Twiistup and VentureNet , but generally the room felt that it was hit and miss with all events. And when you think about the return on your time, it becomes even more discouraging. This past week has had an interesting confluence of events that's led me to conclude that I want to start doing a lot of visible networking among the tech / web crowd here in Los Angeles.

you need at least scan through the program at Twiistup , LA’s biggest and most influential Web event.   Events like these help you get a feel for the climate and energy of the community you live in.  If 00 – MIDNIGHT The Twiistup Evening Open Bar party 80s Tech Prom If you work in a web business (hint: you do even if you don’t think so!), If you are a student at any level, and interested in building a startup of your own, I would highly recommend attending (too bad there isn’t a student discount though).
