But LA was a leader in lead generation (LowerMyBills), comparison shopping (PriceGrabber, Shopzilla), social networking (MySpace … I know, I know – Facebook won – but it was still a big business). But, there was no good for Hollywood to find them. got to talking with Will Schroter, who was an old business associate of mine and old friend, and we thought it could be very interesting to create a place where Hollywood could reach out to find people. But, we were able to into a huge event that we partnered with Lifetime and MySpace on, and we got 50,000 girls to try out in less than a week, with hundreds of thousands of people online as voters and fans, and we had millions of impressions surrounding the event. Alec Shankman is CEO of Santa Monica-based Gotcast (www.gotcast.com), an online site focused on casting of actors for television shows, movies, and other productions.

I wouldn’t bet against MySpace . I know many of their founders and early employees, and one of the co-founders of Intermix (the parent company of MySpace) is an investor. MySpace has lost the battle as the “place for friends”. The following are my 7 Ways on How to Save MySpace

Los Angeles-based MySpace and West Hollywood-based CitySearch announced this morning that the two have launched a beta of a new local search site, MySpace Local, which will allow users to review, rate, and share information about small businesses. According to the firms, Coors and Outback Steakhouse are the brand sponsors for the new site, which leverages Citysearch's database of businesses and MySpace's social networking site. Santa Monica-based Movieclips.com , an online site which allows users to search for scenes from major movies, and embed them on Facebook, MySpace, and other web sites, said today that it has opened up its service to users worldwide. The startup says it has around 12,000 movie clips from major Hollywood studios on its site.

While Celebrity gossip blogs have existed for a while and Hulu, which brings film and television to computers everywhere, won best of show for film and TV at the South by Southwest: Interactive awards this year, in general, the merging of Hollywood and the web has been slow and clumsy.

Kurt Daradics ( Facebook , @KurtyD , FriendFeed , MySpace , LinkedIn , Delicious ) (pronounced dare-a-dix) is a great guy to know. We have regular monthly meetings in Westlake Village, Hollywood, Santa Barbara, & Newport Beach. I'm hoping that Baron and Kurt come up with one that's in Santa Monica / West LA. He recently co-founded CitySourced and I think Ben Kuo nailed him when he describes him as "a connector. someone who makes things happen, and knows everyone, and does his best to make the world a better place."
