We will never be Silicon Valley in the way that Toronto will never be Hollywood. But DemandMedia has already scaled a tech team to a considerable size in Santa Monica.
My commute, for example, from Santa Monica to Century City is less than 15 minutes each way and I never have to take the freeway. But Los Angeles. People People either love it our hate it. All

The second event late February '10 was "Going Goo Goo over Google Analytics" and was held at Mahalo's office in Santa Monica. Despite threatening weather, five of us had a brisk nearly 3mi round-trip walk down the beautiful Beverly Gardens Park along Santa Monica Blvd. With no name tags, introducing yourself can go either way in venues such as the last, the wonderful new W Hollywood, where HHM'ers are intermixed with other hotel guests: you introduce Send me your new, updated, or reviews of networking events and organizations. Santa Monica-based DECA has raised $10M in a new round of funding worth $10M, according to a regulatory filing. Tags: video hollywood content venture deca capita The funding was led by new investor Rustic Canyon Partners, with participation from Series A investors Atomico, General Catalyst Partners, and Mayfield Fund. The firm's CEO, Michael Wayne, confirmed the funding with socalTECH, but said that the company would not be making any official comments until a formal announcement next month.

Santa Monica-based Geodelic , the latest startup of The Platform founder Rahul Sonnad, said today that it has partnered up with Universal Studios Hollywood on a mobile application focused on Universal's "Halloween Horror Nights" event. A new startup, Santa Monica-based MOVIECLIPS.COM , said late Wednesday evening that it has launched a new online video site featuring movie clips and scenes. Santa Monica-based entertainment studio Lionsgate reported this afternoon that it has linked with Massify, an online community for the film industry, to help develop feature film projects for the studio. Santa Monica-based Movieclips.com , an online site which allows users to search for scenes from major movies, and embed them on Facebook, MySpace, and other web sites, said today that it has opened up its service to users worldwide. The startup says it has around 12,000 movie clips from major Hollywood studios on its site.
