No updates for Networking & Social Media Job Search Webinars, Teleconferences and Podcasts . Local parking in Hollywood is always expensive; I paid $8 - the Cinespace valet is at the west corner of the block on Hollywood. Judging from the hashtag twitter traffic and the heads-down phone-illuminated-faces I saw in the crowd there was a high social-media user ratio. Send me your new, updated, or reviews of networking events and organizations. The Notable & Where I'm Going... Tell them you heard about it from Todd's blog! I really enjoy his blog and I can't wait to mix it up with him some more on the value of Hollywood money / connections. And that doesn't count the time for Prenetworking – see Secret for Networking at Events – Prenetworking and Pre-network with LinkedIn . I'm not saying that I'm giving up completely on in-person events, but I think visible networking will provide a more effective use of time. Social Media / Online Networking – Better Use of Time I present a fair amount on the topic of how to use social media. This past week has had an interesting confluence of events that's led me to conclude that I want to start doing a lot of visible networking among the tech / web crowd here in Los Angeles.

I've watched her build her reputation and fan-base using new media tools like Qik, Wordpress and Twitter. As a result, she's been a host or guest on mainstream media outlets like CNN, Fox and CourtTV. You can also catch her on CBSNEWS.COM bringing you the best in social trends and pop culture on her blog “On The Scene”, and as a correspondent on The Tomorrow Show with Mo Rocca. What I admire about Shira Lazar is that she's too much of a go-getter to wait for the perfect TV gig to come to her. And she currently hosts shows on Yahoo!

With all the intertwining between both clubs, combined social circles, trading of tech employees, partnerships, conference shenanigans, and occasional grab-ass, there is quite a bit of cross over. Fast forward through a series of dark New York minutes and four years in Hollywood to a fortuitous rainy San Francisco night in May 2009, and I’m crashing Los Angeles transplant Drew Olanoff’s departure party, where I met former Gawker gossip king Owen Thomas, now of NBCBayArea.com. There is a saying about three different magnificent cities I have lived in twice. “If If you are smart,

Surprisingly, Hollywood hasnt played a major role in the formation of new companies, which have tended to be in less glamorous though more lucrative areas like lead-generation and service (with obvious exceptions like JibJab and Hulu, a joint venture of Fox and NBC). To underscore the point about entrepreneurs coming out of LA-based companies, there is a growing diaspora of talented former MySpace/Intermix executives who have gone on to found or build other companies all over the southland: Richard Rosenblatt (Demand Media), Brett Brewer (AdKnowledge), Josh Berman and Colin Digiaro (Slingshot
