My initial conversations normally focus on the core of the business, important Startup Metrics , probably marketing strategy (ex. If you think about email, especially HTML email with the ability of users to respond via links … a lot of the application can get put into the email. I talk to a lot of founders of startups. SEO for Startups and Negative Customer Acquisition Costs ) and, of course, the product itself.

I'm still trying to understand what this is going to mean in practice. I'm working quite a bit with startups who are leveraging social media, but I'm finding it hard to predict success and metrics. And how can an early stage company think about social media relative to important startup metrics (see http://socalcto.blogspot.com/2009/10/startup.html html )? Visible networking is turning into a really great opportunity to get to know people better, get to meet new people, and have some interesting conversations. First, let me recommend reading a previous blog, called omg I’m just a startup, I can’t do those fancy metrics . Once you create a small list of these queries, then you can start to formalize the ideas into specific metrics that you track daily.
