In some ways it is similar to early stage incubators such as Y Combinator, although FI is even earlier stage, focusing on developing the founders themselves as entrepreneurs as opposed to actual companies. Also, whereas some incubators are geared for usually younger entrepreneurs leaving their jobs to focus full-time on their startups, FI emphasizes founders keeping their day jobs and developing and even launching their products on nights and weekends. Visible networking is turning into a really great opportunity to get to know people better, get to meet new people, and have some interesting conversations.

Almost all of the finalists were MBAs (Stanford x2, Wharton, Harvard x2, MIT, UCLA).  I don’t believe you can hire great business people who outsource the development to a hot incubator who builds you code to match your ambitions.  This is part of my ongoing series called “ Start-up Lessons .” 8221;

In a conference on March 24, UCLA/CNSI launched a “technology incubator” – the first of its kind for UC – in conjunction with UCLA’s Office of Intellectual Property and Industry Sponsored Research (OIP-ISR). The UCLA on-campus technology incubator will be housed in the CNSI building and will offer four to five separate startup projects access to a total of 1,000 square feet of flexible lab space for 18 to 24 months. The event, held in the CNSI auditorium, brought together faculty entrepreneurs, representatives of industry startups and venture capital firms.
Capital Factory , a business incubation program based in Austin, Texas, has lured away a Los Angeles startup, Homstie , which operates an online marketplace which helps people find places to store their stuff. The person-to-person marketplace was started by a number of UCLA undergraduates. Capital Factory is one of a number of seed-stage incubation programs--which According to Capital Factory, the firm was one of five companies to receive $20,000 in funding and an additional $20,000 in services; as a result of the funding, the startup is moving to Austin. Nitro is working closely with the region’s premier research universities, Caltech, UCLA and USC, which represent $1.7 The three universities have shifted their emphasis to actively commercializing technologies and incubating new companies.
