Santa Barbara-based Eucalyptus , which develops open source, cloud computing management software, has linked with a developer of scaling software for the Java programming language, Terracotta, the firms said Tuesday. Terracotta's software is being used to manage Java applications within the cloud; Eucalyptus develops software used to manage private and public cloud computing deployments. According to Terracotta and Eucalyptus, the two will provide tighter integration between their respective software, and also engage in joint sales and marketing. Financial details of the deal were

Los Angeles-based Stickam , a provider of live streaming services and a related online community, announced Monday that the firm is now providing support for streaming live video to Java-enabled mobile devices. Tags: stickam live streaming java mobile phon According to the firm, StickAm Mobile gives users access to all of the features of the firm's web site, including both viewing and responding to messages in video streams. The company explained that phones supported by the new software include the T-Mobile G1, BlackBerry, and other platforms.

San Diego-based Qualcomm and Sun Microsystems announced today that the two are in an effort to port the popular Java programming language to Qualcomm's Snapdragon ARM processor. According to the two firms, Sun has ported its Java Platform Standard Edition 6( Java SE 6) to machines running on Qualcomm's processor. Qualcomm is developing its ARM chipset for netbooks and smart phones; the firm has yet to ship devices using the new processor, but has been demonstrating design wins with OEMs, including a recent demonstration with Google Android OS. Los Angeles-based Webtide , which develops the popular Jetty Application Server for the Java programming language, has been acquired by Intalio. Tags: webtide merger acquisition intalio open source jetty jav Intalio announced the buy Tuesday morning, but did not disclose financial terms of the buy. Webtide was self-funded, and was headed by Adam Lieber, who has previously been at Gluecode and Mission Ventures.

Interviewee: Well, I was formerly a Java developer and I'd done Java for about three or four years and a little while in professional settings. There's nothing wrong with Java, I just like eh, time to try something new and I had heard a lot about Rails and I heard a bit about Jengo and those were kind of like the two that were in my mind, things to try out and I actually wrote a demo site in Rails and I wrote one in Jengo and Jengo just kinda clicked with me. We talked about more than Pownce and Twitter in this interview. Leah Culver is a developer who launched many projects.
