was recently interviewed for an article that appeared in Fast Company titled, “ Why you should start a business in LA .” 8221; If you’re interested in the topic it’s worth a read, but I thought I’d elaborate on the topic since it comes up all the time.

Good idea & plan: You must start with a good idea and a PowerPoint deck (my outline is here , scroll down mid way). Jarl And a great product starts with the founder.
Quick caveats: having fewer investors (3-5) is better than many investors (10-15) and PLEASE make sure you hire a great lawyer who has experience in doing start-ups to avoid pitfalls that will make VC harder down the line. Also, This is part of my ongoing series Pitching a VC .

Last week my team was reviewing our upcoming event calendar and the subject of PerfectBusiness.com’s “ Perfect Pitch 2009 ” event came up. learning about events in the SoCal area (the calendar rocks!)
researching the SoCal tech industry (tons of great local industry data inside!)
This event is perfect for us – thousands of entrepreneurs and a list of business leaders that reads like Fast Company and Forbes had a love child. Richard Branson is the keynote speaker, which in itself is enough to warrant the near $300 ticket.

These are the folks that put on the Startonomics conference this past February at UCLA, which was a great primer for web entrepreneurs and provides a level of networking and education that is needed in SoCal. This time I'm getting to know Mark Geller ( LinkedIn , @markgeller ). That's where I learned I enjoyed interacting with customers and working with development teams to build and launch products. From there, I became the first non-founder employee at an e-commerce startup called BITSource, which was the first electronic software distributor delivering electronic volume software licenses to corporations. I know you are still in stealth, but what can you tell us. Earlier this year I founded Visible networking is turning into a really great opportunity to get to know people better, get to meet new people, and have some interesting conversations.
