Los Angeles-based Gorilla Nation provides online ad sales for branded consumer sites; Los Angeles-based AtomicOnline operates its own network of online media properties; Springboard Productions is a developer of entertainment videos; and Double Helix is a creative and interactive web marketing firm. The firm said that Evolve Media has over 250 employees, and reaches over 300 million monthly uniques across its web sites.

Los Angeles-based Rotohog , the online fantasy sports software firm headed by Kelly Perdew, told its users and supporters today that the firm is powering MySpace's bracket application for the upcoming March Madness NCAA basketball tournament. Rotohog also said it has launched its first ever League Manager Fantasy Baseball game, which it is offering on its own site. Details behind the win were not announced. The win came as part of an update from the company about its recent customer additions.

He was struggling to find high quality developers in Los Angeles. Just the kind of person I like to meet. :) But I was a bit surprised when he emphasized how hard it had been for them to find a web developer in Los Angeles. My flippant comment was, “If you do a Google search for Los Angeles web developer, you’ll find a LOT of people and firms.” His response was that he had done exactly that, but that the long list is not all that useful. Yesterday, I met with someone at the early stage of a startup. He has a great concept with some complexity

Los Angeles-based You2Gov, an online social networking startup focused on politics, said this week that it has added new technology to allow its users to directly contact members of Congress. The firm's site now allows users to email, write, or make calls via Skype and Jaxtr to their political representatives. According to You2Gov, it has created a free, customized database with contact information from all of the members of the United States Congress, including the House and the Senate. You2Gov launched in July, and offers online forums, voting and polling, and other resources

The Los Angeles startup space continues to grow with its latest addition, Launchpad LA . Founded by local VC Marc Suster , Launchpad LA hopes to provide mentorship to the next generation of Los Angeles based entrepreneurs. Having worked with the greatest CEOs in Los Angeles (Jason Calacanis, Jason Nazar and Mike Jones) I can personally tell you how valuable good mentorship can be. Looks like LA is getting something similar to Northern California’s Y Combinator , an organization that can help train and fund the best ideas from the area.
