A new, online social network and dating site, Lawdate.com , based in Los Angeles, said today that it is hoping to match up lawyers with dates with its new web service. The site, the first niche dating site of firm The Dolce Network , calls itself the "attorney dating system," and gives singles opportunities to connect not only based on traditional interests and personality traits--but also practice specialty. The Dolce Network said the service is the first in a series of nice dating sites, including yet-to-be-launched TheDrDate.com, CapitolHillDate.com and EntertainmentIndustryDate.com.

Yammer, a Twitter-like spinout out of high profile Los Angeles genealogy firm Geni.com, has scored the top prize at the TechCrunch50 awards in San Francisco. Geni is the online, Web 2.0-style genealogy and social networking web site headed up by former PayPal founder David Sacks; the firm is venture backed by Charles River Ventures and Founders Fund.
