Los Angeles. People First, I’d like to quote (paraphrase) Brad Feld speaking at Twiistup in LA in 2009, “I keep hearing people in LA talking with a chip on their shoulders about building a tech business here relative to Silicon Valley. I I believe you can attract people to relocate to Los Angeles but it’s likely that they’ll come from locations other than Northern California.

My time in New York was a good nine lives ago, but my adventures in both Los Angeles and San Francisco are fresh and ripe for dissecting. LA techies have to work harder to be taken seriously because Los Angeles is the entertainment mecca of the world, not the tech capital. However, while both crowds love to love the city of San Francisco, San Franciscans love to loathe Los Angeles, which is understandable in some regards. There is a saying about three different magnificent cities I have lived in twice. “If If you are smart, you move to San Francisco.

My friend Mark Long recently asked me about networking in Los Angeles. Rather than write something just for Mark, I thought I would let everybody else know what the good, tech-oriented networking events are in Los Angeles.
Twiistup – Twiistup is kind of like LA’s answer to the TechCrunch50. Mark is a CTO, see, and his company, PortBlue , was recently acquired (congrats, Mark!). After transitioning to the new team, Mark was left to wonder, what now?

One of the worst keep secrets in Los Angeles tech is finally ready for public viewing. We have received notice that the much celebrated Twiistup brand is changing hands. Conference founder Mike Macadaan (disclosure: a colleague) started Twiistup and quickly turned it into THE Los Angeles tech event.
A few years ago I attended my first Twiistup, it was a very small and intimate event.

Twiistup , the popular Los Angeles technology showcase and networking event started by Mike Macadaan, is announcing today that the event has been sold to a undisclosed, private investor. According to Twiistup, it will expand beyond its showoff events to include a full conference agenda, and also be expanding to similar events in other cities. Twiistup said its next Financial details of the ownership change were not disclosed. The event's new producer for the events is Francisco Dao.
