Los Angeles-based TrueCar , the online car pricing site run by Scott Painter, said today that it has launched a mobile version of its site. TrueCar is a spinout of Zag Automotive, which is also run by Painter. According to the company, the new site runs on Apple iPhone, BlackBerry, and other web-enabled mobile devices. TrueCar said the site is accessible either by going to its main url, or to its mobile site at mobile.truecar.com .

GRP has just recently closed on a new $200M fund, and Mark has been one of the more active venture capitalists in the Los Angeles area in recent months. Los Angeles, which has one of the largest Jewish populations in the world, is known for many links to the country of Israel. Israeli high tech executives heading to the Israel Conference in Los Angeles this Thursday told us that there was a strong link, in general, between Israeli high tech firms and California in general--usually as an entree into the North American market--but do not differentiate much between Southern or Northern California as a base for operations.

Los Angeles-based Zag , the online car buying software firm headed by former CarsDirect CEO Scott Painter, has scored an investment from financial services firm USAA , USAA disclosed Thursday. According to USAA, it is taking an equity position in Zag, which is also providing the firm with its car buying services. Zag develops technology which allows members USAA did not provide financial details behind the investment. USAA has been offering Zag's services to its members since 2007.
