The firm said the new offering will be available in eight markets, starting in New York, New Jersey, Houston, Dallas/Plano, San Diego, Bakersfield, Sonoma County, and Hawaii, at selected theaters run by Reading Cinemas. Los Angeles-based Fandango , which operates an online movie ticketing service, announced today that it has rolled out a mobile phone ticketing option. The firm, which is a unit of Comcast Interactive, said its mobile ticket program allows users to use their mobile phones to get into movies.

San Diego-based Fallbrook Technologies , a developer of continuous variable planetary transmissions being applied to the electric vehicle and other markets, is tapping a Chinese manufacturer for its products, the company said today. Fallbrook said it is using Tri-Star Group to manufacturer its Nuvici continuously variable planetary (CVP) transmission, beginning in Q2 2010. Business arrangements behind the manufacturing agreement were not announced.

San Diego-based storage provider Overland Storage said Thursday that the firm has bolstered its channel partner program, and will be providing dedicated sales and marketing support, deal registration, and other products which it says will increase revenue opportunities for its resellers. Among the firm's additional channel benefits are business development funds, discounts on evaluation units, and training.

Friday, May 15, 2009 -- 4th Annual San Diego Economic Outlook for 2009-10. The news has not been good: fearful consumers and frozen credit markets; jobs disappearing and stores closing; new cars waiting for buyers and State governments begging for cash. The 4th Annual San Diego Economic Outlook in May will discuss these issues along with a focused view of the San Diego regional economy. But after three long cold years in the housing sector, there is a little green shoot or two coming up. Can Spring be far away?

Oxford, England-based Enigma Diagnostics , a molecular diagnostics firm, said today that it has opened up a new, regional headquarters in San Diego. office is in the Sorrento Valley, where it will house sales and marketing, assay development, regulatory and manufacturing activity. Enigma said it hopes to tap the "deep resource pool" in San Diego of in vitro diagnostics professionals.

Kyocera Solar , a manufacturer of solar modules, said today that it is planning to begin manufacturing solar modules in San Diego, to serve the U.S. market. Kyocera already maintains its North American businesses from San Diego. The firm said it is looking to produce 1,000 megawatts of solar cells per year by March 2013 from the location. Kyocera Solar is the Arizona-based photovoltaic arm of Japanese firm Kyocera Corporation.

San Diego slipped somewhat in the amount of capital invested during the quarter, to $178.4M. Interestingly enough, San Diego — which led Q2 investments — slipped significantly in deal amounts this quarter.

PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) released their quarterly MoneyTree data over the weekend, totaling up $751M in Southern California deals. Online marketing firm Digitaria reported earlier this week that it has hired Sunil Bhagwan as vice president of search. The San Diego-based company described Bhagwan as a veteran of the Web marketing industry with nearly a decade of leadership experience. Most recently, Digitaria noted, he was senior director of business development at interactive marketing firm Business Online. San Diego-based Mushroom Networks , a spinout of the University of California San Diego, said today that the firm is now applying its technology to the wireless market. The company is targeting mobile TV, enterprise markets, the military, news crews, and others who need high speed wireless internet connections. The firm, which develops technology which combines multiple Internet connections into one, faster broadband connection, said its product PortaBella takes up to four cellular data cards and creates a single, high-speed shared connection from those four cards.

San Diego-based Overland Storage, a provider of data storage products, said Thursday taht the firm has inked a strategic alliance with Mobotoix Vision Systems. Mobotix develops products for the video security and surveillance market; Overland's Snap Server provides NAS storage. According to the company, the move ties Mobotix's IP cameras in a bundle with the company's Snap Server network attached storage appliances. Financial impact of the bundling deal was not disclosed.
