One of the topics that came up in my post Mobile Internet Apple Facebook was around open vs. This issue comes up at the start of almost every new startup company in a variety of forms. I’m constantly struggling with trying to figure out the best way to pull together solutions, especially with how fast things move.

Who’s responsible for what portions? How will we find and interview developers? How do we motivate and manage developers? What do we need to do to make sure we can survive technical due diligence by investors and partners? What specific technical innovations might make sense? What can we build that might be protectable? What metrics are going to be the key startup metrics and how do we get those metrics without too much cost? Where and how will we host the systems? Specially in a startup, where resources are always scarce, plotting

We are seeing it today on the Twitter Platform - new services daily. You need to have your eyes on the metrics that matter - primarily focused on usage and WOM metrics given so many people sign up and abandon services in this stage (more here later). While the standard traffic metrics are fun and key, get down to business. [Update] I’m revisiting this post given the current state of the start-up environment. In today’s world, it is more critical than ever to understand where your industry/category stands.

First, let me recommend reading a previous blog, called omg I’m just a startup, I can’t do those fancy metrics . Once you create a small list of these queries, then you can start to formalize the ideas into specific metrics that you track daily.

I believe there is still a huge online publisher problem that has been perpetuated by big media's continued dependence on brand advertisers and phony Nielsen TV audience measurement platforms. During economic growth cycles advertising terms are dictated by big media publishers who sell impressions and scarcity. 2) What metrics are you using to sell and measure video engagement for your advertisers? We are creating a platform that enables users to play instant games and apps directly on the computer desktop. I'm still trying to understand what this is going to mean in practice. I'm working quite a bit with startups who are leveraging social media, but I'm finding it hard to predict success and metrics. And how can an early stage company think about social media relative to important startup metrics (see [link] )? I am a product guy so my Visible networking is turning into a really great opportunity to get to know people better, get to meet new people, and have some interesting conversations.
