SEO for Startups )? What are your key Startup Metrics ? I just had an all-too common conversation with the founder of a startup who had spent more than a year working with a software development company who had produced a mess. The mess really comes from a developer who was willing to get started on a product that was not fully thought out. I always take a very different approach in early conversations.

My initial conversations normally focus on the core of the business, important Startup Metrics , probably marketing strategy (ex. SEO for Startups and Negative Customer Acquisition Costs ) and, of course, the product itself. I talk to a lot of founders of startups. Normally the product is defined as a web site.

I'll be interested to see what it turns into. On the SEO side of things, I'll definitely want to get your feedback on Browse My Stuff . And what do you think about the controversy about stealth vs. I'm still trying to understand what this is going to mean in practice. I'm working quite a bit with startups who are leveraging social media, but I'm finding it hard to predict success and metrics. One of the things I am passionate about is analytics and metrics. It was this experience that gave me the appreciation for the importance of metrics and the greater importance of making meaning of the data for decision making. While at one of my recent startups I developed a framework for startup growth metrics (focused primarily on user metrics). Let’s face it: social media strategy is going to cannibalize black hat and some current white hat SEO strategy. Social media strategy is the new way to do SEO (figure out how to give value to your client’s web strategy). Right now, there are a bunch of SEOs listening to what Danny Sullivan has to say about social media strategy because they trust him. ( Sphinn this ) Search Search engines react to behavior of its users and site owners.

First, let me recommend reading a previous blog, called omg I’m just a startup, I can’t do those fancy metrics . For example, there might be a series of flows in how users come into the site, starting with ads, SEO, or otherwise.
