When I got to college, I did not see myself as a full-time coder, so I majored in biology, which was my favorite subject at the time. (Graduated This is not so much because others are going to try to steal the idea, however, there is simply no upside in broadcasting your strategy to any would-be competitors. So I obsess about ways to iterate and make it better. Visible networking is turning into a really great opportunity to get to know people better, get to meet new people, and have some interesting conversations. So, we both turned down job offers to create a new kind of practice – we are true “advocates.” Any thoughts on my recent post Startup Metrics ? And how it relates to what you are talking about in [link] ? The Startup Metrics post is a good example of what I call “holocognics.” In my case, I am I recently got together with Aaron Shechet and an early stage startup to discuss the direction the company might want to take. It was a great conversation and I thought it would be a good idea to do some visible networking with Aaron to get to know him better.

I'm trying to get the concept of visible networking going, so his feedback is really valuable. I'm going to be working with people like Cliff and Steve Gilison (see Product Management for Startups in Los Angeles ) and Tom Humbarger (see Social Media to Build Reputation and Reach Prospects ) to create this online business networking group for Los Angeles. Cliff also sparked an idea that along with using in a separate conversations sparked the idea that we should be using Southern California Tech Central as a means of helping to aggregate the conversation. I am excited to be participating in and announcing the of: Southern California Tech Central This is a community of people in Southern California who have come together to help find and organize the best content from blogs, news sources and other web sites all around technology in So Cal. This site is being sponsored by the Technology Council of Southern California and my company TechEmpower . The goal is to create a place where it's easy to find current and highly relevant content. And perhaps to stimulate new connections.
and by now you’d think that most of the observers of the technology world would know that Internet metrics, like all statistics, can be manipulated to suit any viewpoint and company, as needed.  Now, what does this have to do with Southern California’s high tech community? My observation: perhaps because we’re outside the Silicon Valley “echo chamber”, There was an interesting post from 37Signals yesterday, complaining how the business press perpetuates the idea of “success” in terms of things like impressions, users, followers, etc.
