The group--the largest angel group in Southern California, and one of the largest nationwide--said the number and amount invested by the group declined from last year, but that it actually increased follow-on investments in companies. The TCA said that firms that received funding this year included WiSpry, Paradigm Select Assets, MicroPower Technologies, Outside Labs, Mobile XL, Cyber-Rain, Loop'd Network, Vigilistics, Numira, YouMail, Amplyx Pharmaceuticals, Benchmark Revenue, Masher Media, h2scan, MyShape, LeisureLink, PharmaSecure, ElephantDrive, and UsedCardboardBoxes.

Seriously, it kinda stinks) it is a legitimate funding source for Southern California entrepreneurs and has produced successes including GreenDot and MyShape . Last night I attended the inaugural Open Angel Forum event started by Jason Calacanis , a fellow LA resident. Jason started the Open Angel Forum in response to his frustration that entrepreneurs were being charged by some angel organizations to present at their events.

In any case, one person — Julie Mattern , founder and Chief Technologist at the Rubicon Project — was the only So-Cal executive highlighted on AlwaysOn’s list, so I started compiling my own list below of some of the top women in technology in Southern California:

So if you’re casually reading and don’t really care about angel financing – abort now! So you need to do one and have it in your back pocket ready to whip out your presentation or your laptop at any moment and go through it in case you’re asked or in case you’re not building the rapport you hope to just verbally. The Tech Coast Angels , Southern California's largest angel investment group, disclosed this morning that it has finally reached the $1 billion mark in investments received by its portfolio firms. PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) released their quarterly MoneyTree data over the weekend, totaling up $751M in Southern California deals. MyShape, $12M
Taking a closer look at the numbers, LA led the region with $385.65M in deals, but Orange County also had a strong showing with $186M in deals. San Diego slipped somewhat in the amount of capital invested during the quarter, to $178.4M.
