Now that I work at MySpace I really need to better balance my SXSW time between interactive and music. While While I was flying out of Austin last Monday my MySpace Music colleagues were pouring in. Sponsored by MySpace, the Muse show was certainly one of those events.

I wouldn’t bet against MySpace . I know many of their founders and early employees, and one of the co-founders of Intermix (the parent company of MySpace) is an investor. MySpace has lost the battle as the “place for friends”. The following are my 7 Ways on How to Save MySpace
They attract over 70 million people a month (just in the US), and by most accounts are still one of the 10 most popular sites in the world. They also have a new management team, that’s headed up in part by Michael Jones (COO), the most all around talented internet executive I know.

News Corporation, the parent firm of Los Angeles-based Myspace , said late Wednesday that MySpace CEO and co-founder Chris DeWolfe is leaving the firm. DeWolfe will not be renewing his contract, and will be stepping down in "the near future" at the company, while remaining on the board of MySpace China and acting as a strategic advisor. In a statement announcing DeWolfe's departure, MySpace said According to New Corp., Reasons for the departure of DeWolfe were not given.

Los Angeles-based MySpace is launching a promotion centered around the upcoming NCAA March Madness basketball tournament Monday, with a promotion and $10,000 prize, the firm revealed this morning. According to MySpace, it will be giving away $10,000 to the winner of the firm's second annual MySpace Bracket Challenge , which is being sponsored by vitaminwater. The bracket Interestingly enough, it appears that MySpace has not inked a licensing deal with the NCAA, as it carefully avoided any references to the NCAA, "March Madness" or basketball in its announcement and web site.

Los Angeles-based SodaHead.com , the social question-and-answer and polling startup headed by former MySpace VP of Operations Jason Feffer, is morphing its focus towards the social news area, saying last night that the company is looking to become a "social newspaper." According to SodaHead.com, the site is looking to create a forum to discuss breaking news and "hot topics" which are important to users on the site. Los Angeles-based social networking site MySpace , The Wall Street Journal, and the World Economic Forum today said that the firms are in a contest to send a "citizen journalist" to the Davos World Economic Forum. According to the firms, the "citizen journalist" will join the Davos press corp, and report on conference news and interview world leaders for MySpace and The Wall Street Journal. Winner of the contest will be selected from users who upload a video to MySpace, naming one global and one local issue that the user has been involved in, and what they've learned from those issues; what country caught the user's attention most this year and why, detailing the issues faced by citizens; and what "pressing global issue" has been underreported, and how they would draw attention to that issue.

Updates for users on Los Angeles-based MySpace 's social networking service are now being indexed by Google in real-time, according to Mike Jones , Co-President of MySpace. Jones said Tuesday in a blog post that the implementation of the firm's MySpace Real-Time Search API went live on Google today, so that live updates form its users--including news, photos, and blog posts--are shown as part of search results on Google's search engine.

Los Angeles-based Big Stage Entertainment has inked its third partnership of the week, saying yesterday that it has tied into Splash News, a provider of celebrity news and photos. Big Stage, which develops virtual 3D avatar technology, said that the agreement allows consumers to put their 3-D avatars into celebrity photos from Splash News, both on the Big Stage web site and at partner web sites. The firm said the partnership will allow consumers to put themselves into photos with stars like Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and Shaquille O'Neal, and embed those photos into things like Facebook, MySpace, and the web.
