It's another big week for startup launches, this time in San Diego at DEMOfall. We built this to support corporate portals--companies that have a corporate presence on the web--but also see that social networks like MySpace or Facebook could use this technology to allow users at their site to communicate in their native language with other users. One of the firms launching this week there is Los Angeles-based NativeTung (www.nativetung.com), which is developing tools to help web sites translate and create multilingual versions of their sites. With so much press about MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, WordPress, and other tools, I just assume that most people, especially in the age demographic of the entrepreneurs I was talking with, already know all about the capabilities these tools provide.
She asked if I know of any developer resources that I would recommend, and I tell her about the San Diego Drupal Users Group that meets monthly (currently at the Hall of Champions at Balboa Park). One thing that I like about talking withentrepreneurs is when you realize that a lot of what you know and take for granted is completely new to someone else.

San Diego-based Interacasting Corporation , a provider of mobile social networking software, has been acquired by Good Technology, the firms said this morning. Intercasting was backed by Venrock, Avalon, and Masthead; its flagship software is ANTHEM, which connected mobile users to social networking sites like MySpace, and was sold by telecom carriers. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. According to Redwood City-based Good Technology, the acquisition will further expand its device portfolio and enhance the capabilities of its solutions.

Los Angeles-based MySpace said Thursday that the firm has inked deals with several independent music providers, to distribute their music through MySpace Music . In addition, MySpace Music said the catalog of Wind-up Records will be available through a distribution deal the firm has with Sony Music Entertainment. San Diego-based RoyaltyShare helps track digital royalties for a number of record labels, the firm said it has inked agreements with Nettwerk Music Group, INgrooves, IRIS Distribution, and RoyaltyShare, which will result in adding "several hundred thousand" songs to its catalog.
