LA was a leader in lead generation (LowerMyBills), comparison shopping (PriceGrabber, Shopzilla), social networking (MySpace … I know, I know – Facebook won – but it was still a big business). If Los Angeles has a strategic asset : content creation skills – In order for the Internet to go mainstream you first needed the infrastructure to support it from networking equipment (Cisco, Juniper) to databases (Oracle) to search (Google) and more recently mobile devices (Apple). But Los Angeles. People People either love it our hate it. All

Los Angeles-based MySpace said today that it has launched a new, revamped version of the firm's game homepage, as a new MySpace Games site, to provide a more social gaming environment. According to the social networking site, it has made it easier for users to discover and share games, added analytics tool and an application programming interface (API) for developers, linked the games site into high score service Scoreloop, as well as wired the site to better track how users are finding and choosing specific games. The site also said it has rolled out a new iPhone application which allows users to play any of the games on the MySpace site on their iPhone.

Los Angeles-based social networking site MySpace reported Tuesday that the firm is now the top, social application on the Android platform, and is the third most popular downloaded application overall on the Android Market. MySpace trails T-Mobile's account information app and The Weather Channel's app in the store. However, competitor Facebook is not far away, at number five in the Android Market rankings, according to site AndroidStats . Last Saturday, I was a panelist at the CalTech - Social Networks event. My main points were: Social Everywhere - I work with a lot of different shapes and sizes of companies and it's interesting how each one has opportunities to leverage its users to form different kinds of communities, create connections, encourage contribution, etc. It is almost universal that there are opportunities around social networking. It was a really good event with lots of interesting folks in attendance. I would guess that there was about 100 people - on a Saturday in Pasadena.

Los Angeles-based social networking site is looking to court developers with the launch of a development contest, the MySpace Developer Challenge , the firm said recently. I wouldn’t bet against MySpace . I know many of their founders and early employees, and one of the co-founders of Intermix (the parent company of MySpace) is an investor. MySpace has lost the battle as the “place for friends”. The following are my 7 Ways on How to Save MySpace

Los Angeles-based social networking site MySpace announced today that the firm has rolled out a beta of a feature which allows MySpace users to sync their status updates with Twitter. The firm said the new feature allows for two-way updates between the sites, with MySpace automatically posting status updates to Twitter feeds, and also updating status from Twitter feed updates.
