The group announced today that it has named the incoming Presidents of its area networks, with Steve Flaim in San Diego, John Glanville and Jeff Kurfess in Santa Barbara, Stu Roberts in Orange County, Scott Sangster in Los Angeles, and John Tillquist in the Inland Empire. The latest numbers from the MoneyTree Report from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), based on data from Thomson Reuters, were released this morning, finding that there was $587.8M However, nationally, venture capital numbers were much worse, with venture investments dropping to the lowest level in more than a decade. invested in Southern California in Q4. Was having pleasant cup of joe reading the paper (yes once in awhile I still like the "print dinosaur") when I read the article on slowing VC fundings in 1q 2008 . If you were a VC, why would you deploy risk capital - particularly early stage - in a time of upcoming economic uncertainty? Focus on capital efficiency and position for a stronger 2009. Both PWC and E&Y do a great job covering the field. On the same page or close to it, was an article on recession and unemployment rising.
