think one of the main reasons, is that LA has some unique challenges when it comes to a technology community. First, we're geographically spread out, with silos far away--in Pasadena, the Valley, Hollywood, etc. It's not like San Francisco, where everyone seems to be in a five mile square radius, and you can get out and walk to other technology companies. Pasadena-based X1 Technologies , the developer of desktop search software run by Idealab, announced today that it has upgraded its software. The firm said that its newest version of its X1 Professional Client includes such features as removable disk support, RSS and Atom feeds, double byte language support, better Lotus Notes support, as well as performance and stability improvements. X1's software is used to index and search enterprise desktops.

Pasadena-based X1 Technologies, a developer of desktop and enterprise search software, is setting its sights on the eDiscovery market, saying this morning that it has created a new offering specifically aimed at the eDiscovery market. X1 said it has built a solution, based on its X1 enterprise search technology and professional services, called X1 eDiscovery Search Suite. The new tool is focused on helping companies who need to produce electronic documents, due to lawsuits. Cost of the new software was not released.

Pasadena-based X1 Technologies , a developer of enterprise search software, announced Monday that the firm has tapped Singapore firm Shepard Pte Ltd as a partner. Pasadena-based X1 Technologies announced Monday that it has appointed a new Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. According to X1, Maxwell joins the company from MTI Technology, where he also served at VP of Marketing. The firm said it has appointed John Maxwell to the position, to lead the marketing initiatives for the firm. Maxwell has also served at Veritas Software and Sun Microsystems.

Irvine-based WebVisible announced today that it has acquired Pasadena-based Adapt Technologies, a developer of search engine marketing tools. Adapt Technologies was venture backed by Concept2company, Emergence Capital Partners, and Mohr, Davidow Ventures; the firm had raised $9.8M Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. WebVisible is a provider of local online advertising services, which helps small and midsize businesses place search engine marketing.
A analysis released by Ernst & Young this week finds that clean technology investments are up significantly this quarter, rising 73% to $572M from last quarter. According to the analysis, based on data from Dow Jones VentureSource, clean technology investments were up significantly from Q1, but still down 59% in terms of capital from Q2 of 2008, which was the second-highest quarter for cleantech investments on record. The key segments of investment were energy/electricity related deals, which total $157M, or 26 percent of all of the deals, followed by energy efficiency, which had $152M in investments.
