Santa Monica-based TrueCar has officially launched its new car pricing site today, saying that it is now providing consumers with details on the prices paid for people on cars in their area. The firm--which is a spinout of automotive configuration software firm Zag--said it will provide consumers with a "Price Report" showing the full distribution of prices paid by other people, for the exact same vehicle, in a consumer's local area. Santa Monica-based TrueCar , the new car pricing data startup headed by Scott Painter, said Monday that it has inked a deal with automotive publisher High Gear Media , where High Gear will include TrueCar's data on its network of web sites. TrueCar said that High Gear will include its search and pricing services through sites like TheCarConnection.com , MotorAuthority.com and GreenCarReports.com , part of High Gear's network of web sites. Santa Monica-based TrueCar , the online car pricing spinout of Zag Automotive, is expanding the depth of its vehicle data today, saying that it is licensing information on new vehicles from Chrome Systems, which is a part of DealerTrack Holdings. TrueCar said it will license Chrome's new vehicle data to provide details on vehicles down to the option level, and that the deal also include an ability to distribute that data to third party web sites in conjunction with TrueCar's pricing estimates. TrueCar is using real-world sales data from automotive dealesr to power its service, which allows both consumers and dealers to research recent pricing trends and actual pricing data from local markets. The firm said the new vehicle pricing prediction service will offer prediction in consumer interest in new vehicles, based on site traffic, automotive media coverage, blog postings, dealership pre-orders, and other data. The firm said it will only offer the ratings for production, and not concept cars, with predictions for six months after full retail distribution of the new vehicles.
