Santa Barbara-based Cogi , a startup which provides a service to capture and transcribe business phone calls, announced today that it has rolled out a new, standalone transcription service. The firm previously offered similar services only through its phone call transcription product. Cogi said its new "Cogi Transcribe" service allows businesses to upload audio or video recordings, and will provide 24 hour turnaround on transcriptions of those recordings for $1.00 per minute.

Citrix promised to operate Expertcity as a separate division and maintain its offices in Santa Barbara and it was unclear if other potential acquirers would have been willing to make, and keep, similar commitments.

Santa Barbara-based Innovative Micro Technology , a provider of MEMs foundry services, has been selected by optical switching firm Capella Intelligent Subsystems , the firms said Tuesday. IMT develops, manufactures, tests, and supplies MEMs products to the RF, biotech/biomed, optical communications, infrared, navigation, and other markets. According to Capella and IMT, they are in a strategic foundry relationship, where IMT will manufacture Capella's next-generation high performance Wavelength Selective Switches (WSS). Citrix Systems , a provider of enterprise infrastructure software based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, said Wednesday that the firm is reducing its headcount by approximately 10 percent--and has laid off staff at the firm's Santa Barbara Unit, Citrix Online. According to sources, the firm has provided notice to people in its Santa Barbara office about the cuts. A spokesperson for Citrix confirmed the cuts Friday evening.

Santa Barbara-based cloud computing software firm RightScale announced today that the firm is partnering with a number of other software providers to deliver business intelligence software on its cloud management platform. RightScale said it is unveiling the new product with Jaspersoft, Talend, and Vertica, which integrates technology from those firms for the business intelligence market. RightScale said its software can automatically configure the software from those vendors, deploy it into the cloud. RightScale is venture backed by Index Ventures and Benchmark Capital.

Santa Barbara-based Inlustra , a firm developing Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor materials, announced this morning that the firm has begun delivering its products to customers. According to the firm--a spinout of the University of California Santa Barbara--it has begun delivering its Gallium Nitride substrates to its customers, who are using it for the production of highly efficient light sources, including LEDs and lasers. The firm said that its products can be used for the production of green LEDs, white LEDs, blue laser diodes for Blu Ray DVD players, as well as for future use in white LEDs for lighting replacement.

Lisa’s example: There’s a company called Bargain Networks here in the Santa Barbara area. Bargain Networks for years ran ads about products that were related to listings for really inexpensive automobiles. They were making money on those products on a referral basis.
Back when I ran Bradford & Reed , Commission Junction, a leading affiliate network, put me on their homepage and talked me up as the guy they paid $1 million in annual commissions. Then Lisa Riolo, who was in charge of bringing in revenue at CJ, invited me to Commission Junction University

Santa Barbara-based Citrix Online said Wednesday that it has rolled out a new software product that the firm is aiming at remote web support. Citrix also said it has unveiled a new version of the firm's corporate web support product, GoToAssist Corporate, which adds Mac support, multiple monitor support, ability to reboot a client's computer, and a simple user interface. According to Citrix, the new service, GoToAssist Express, is a version of the firm's remote support service which will allow individuals and small businesses to provide online, technical support to clients.
