Hollywood-based, music-related blog and content firm Buzznet has reportedly cut employees, according to a report from Digital Music News. Buzznet operates an online social networking and social media site focused on music and bands, and is backed by Anthem Ventures, Interscope, Redpoint Ventures, and other According to the publication, citing a representative of the firm, Buzznet has eliminated 10 employees, from a total of 89 staff. This publication has not yet confirmed the cuts with the firm.

According to Buzznet, it has hired former New York Times music reporter Jeff Leeds as its Editor-in-Chief, and former Alternative Press magazine editor Leslie Simon as its Senior Editor. Buzznet is venture backed by Anthem Ventures, Interscope, and Redpoint Ventures. Hollywood-based Buzznet, an online social media and networking site focused on music, said Wednesday that it has hired two editors to bolster its music editorial team. The numbers, which were drawn from venture deals tracked and reported in socalTECH's proprietary venture capital database, found that there was $719.7M The numbers--which are derived by socalTECH from venture deals reported by companies, in news, disclosed in regulatory filings, and otherwise publicly reported--showed that the biggest deals for the quarter were for SolarReserve, which raised $140M for its solar energy projects; Active Network, which scored $80M from ESPN and others; Fisker Automotive, with $65M, Sapphire Energy, with $50M; and Intelligent Beauty, which raised $43M.

The latest numbers from the MoneyTree Report from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), based on data from Thomson Reuters, were released this morning, finding that there was $587.8M terms of venture firm activity, the report found that DFJ Frontier was the most active in the quarter, with five deals; GRP Partners , Mission Ventures , and Redpoint Ventures all had four deals each in the quarter.
