San Diego-based La Jolla Pharmaceuticals , the failed biopharmaceuticals firm which was previously developing treating lupus renal disease, reported today that it has received notification from the Nasdaq that it will be delisted from the market as of Thursday. The Nasdaq denied the company's request for continued listing on the market, and determined that the company is now a "public shell" due to its nominal assets and operations. La Jolla Pharmaceuticals said it will be quoted on the Pink OTC market (pnnk sheets) after delisting, and is looking to be quoted on the OTCBB.

A new report by the Milken Institutue, attempting to rank the "top high-tech centers" in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, shows Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego areas are all within the top 10 "preeminent high-tech metros" ranked by high tech employment and wages. According to the firm's report, "North America's High-Tech Economy: The Geography of Knowledge-Based Industries," the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale metro area is now ranked number five, San Dieg-Carlsbad-San The report was released Tuesday. ...Tags: Tags: report milken insitute
UK-based Dotmatics , a developer of informatics and business intelligence software, reported today that the firm has opened up new offices in San Diego. The firm said the North American offices for the firm are in Del Mar, and were opened in response to "huge interest" and a rapidly growing customer base in the USA. The firm did not say how many people will be located at its new offices.
San Diego-based music startup Slacker has apparently lost its CEO, according to a report from VentureWire . VentureWire said it confirmed the departure of Dennis Mudd with an investor in the company. Slacker is venture backed by Austin Ventures, Centennial Ventures, Mission Ventures, Rho Ventures, and Sevin Rosen Funds. The firm has raised around $70M

VentureWire cited a regulatory filing in reporting the news. San Diego-based business process automation and reporting software maker BP Logix revealed Tuesday that a prominent Midwestern university has adopted BP Logix's workflow management application. According to San Diego-based BP Logix, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will use BP Logix's Workflow Director app to automate workflow and approval of key payroll, personnel and human resources forms. The financial impact of the customer win was not disclosed. BP Logix said the university plans to begin deploying the first wave of forms based on Workflow Director
San Diego- and Los Angeles-based video sharing site veoh Networks has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, according to web site Mashable. Dmitry Shapiro, CEO of Veoh, did not respond to emails requesting comment, the PR firm listed on the firm's site said it no longer represents the company, and socalTECH was unable to reach anyone via phone at the company. Voice-over-IP service Skype is in the midst of negotiations to buy San Diego-based Gizmo5 , according to a report in TechCrunch. According to the report, Skype is looking to pay around $50M for Gizmo5, which develops voice-over-IP based, Internet calling software based on the SIP standard. The report says that the firms are still early in terms of negotations. Gizmo5 was founded by Michael Robertson, the founder of MP3.com. Gizmo5's Robertson would not comment on the report.
Privately held, San Diego firm Service-now.com , a developer of IT service automation software-as-a-service, has released its yearly financial results, in an unusual move. The firm said today that it closed its fiscal year on June 30, 2009, with more than $28M in recurring revenue, and 280 customers. Service-now.com said that it is now expecting to be profitable next year and have more than $50M in recurring revenue.
