Los Angeles-based ManiaTV , which produces and distributes online content, is reportedly looking for a buyer, and has hired investment bank Updata Advisors. According to a report in TVWeek , the firm is hoping to find a buyer by the end of the month. Neither Peter Hoskins, the firm's CEO, or the firm's public relations firm responded to emails for comment on the report as of press time. Hoskins had told socalTECH earlier this month that the firm was "actually selling and living off what we do," and saying that the firm was "moving out of the venture backed stage." SpaceX--which disclosed earlier this year via regulatory filing (and reported in socalTECH) that it had raised $15M out of $60M in a funding round--has Jurvetson listed as a member of its board. A study of the venture capital deal flow in Southern California conducted by socalTECH shows that venture capital deals dropped for Q3, to around $720M in deals, in a market dominated by clean technology firms. The numbers, which were drawn from venture deals tracked and reported in socalTECH's proprietary venture capital database, found that there was $719.7M in venture capital deals in the third quarter, down dramatically from $1.2B invested in Q3 of 2007, and down slightly from venture numbers in Q2, when there was approximately $966M in venture deals. Travel search site LowFares.com , which is owned by Oversee.net, is reporting that it has seen a jump in visitors to the site of 73 percent since the beginning of the year. The firm told socalTECH that the boost came both because it has been more aggressive in search engine marketing, and a new travel deals newsletter which has driven customers to return to the site. LowFares said the search engine marketing efforts were the result of additional advertiser relationships the firm has secured in recent months.
