Santa Monica-based Rubicon Project , the online ad network optimization firm headed by Frank Addante, is planning a major technology upgrade Wednesday. No details on the exact upgrades to the service have been released, but Rubicon has been making a major push on Twitter and elsewhere to sign up premium publishers. Rubicon said it is migrating user accounts today and tomorrow ahead of its launch. In what might be some new competition for Santa Monica-based Rubicon Project , the high profile ad optimization firm headed by Frank Addante, search engine giant Google told its advertisers late Wednesday that it will begin to offer similar capabilities in its AdSense program. Rubicon Project similarly offers its ad optimization service to publishers, picking the advertising networks which will provide the greatest revenue to the publisher, and also certifying higher quality ad networks for inclusion on sites. Google said it will open its door to third party advertising networks, allowing the ads in those networks to compete with AdWords advertisers for ad space on publishers.

Santa Monica-based Rubicon Project has tapped a New York company, Katz 360 Sales, to sell premium display ads to advertisers, the firms announced today. Katz 360 Sales said it is using Rubicon Project's Internet advertising infrastructure to customize content and audience selections for its advertisers, across the 20,000 premium websites that Rubicon is enabling. Rubicon Project provides Katz 360 Sales, the digital sales arm of Katz Media Group--which itself is a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications--provides sales and marketing services to the broadcast industry, particularly for radio and television firms.

Santa Monica-based internet advertising firm the Rubicon Project said Thursday that the firm has officially opened up its London offices, and hired on a Director to handle UK publishers. Rubicon--which appointed a International VP just last month and said it would be setting up shop in London--said that it has recruited Justin Thomas as Director of UK Publisher Development for the new office. Santa Monica-based Rubicon Project , which provides web advertising optimization software, has expanded into New York, the firm announced Thursday. The addition of the marketplace--which can be enabled in a software setting by publishers--puts the software firm in direct competition with companies such as Santa Monica-based Rubicon Project. Pasadena-based OpenX Technologies , a provider of ad serving software for web publishers, announced this morning that the firm has launched a new, advertising marketplace it is calling OpenX Market. According to OpenX, the marketplace will integrate with its software, and allow publishers to maximize their revenues.
