Matt Coffin , the founder of Los Angeles-based LowerMyBills and an active angel investor in Southern California, has joined venture capital firm Split Rock Partners as a Venture Advisor, the venture firm said this week. Coffin also has invested as an angel in Billshrink, Buscape, CyberRain, Demand Media, Docstoc, Hautelook, Impact Radius, Inadco, Machinima, Mahalo, Rubicon Project, and 2tor.
...Tags: Split Rock, which is based in Minneapolis, said that Coffin will work with the firm to identify promising investment opportunities, as well as to help advise its existing portfolio companies.

though, having come from an engineering background where things are a lot more merit driven and gender-neutral, it’s disappointing to see how much less so the business side of things tends to be…)
In any case, one person — Julie Mattern , founder and Chief Technologist at the Rubicon Project — was the only So-Cal executive highlighted on AlwaysOn’s list, so I started compiling my own list below of some of the top women in technology in Southern California:
Last week, AlwaysOn published a list of their top 25 women in Tech — their list of the top 25 women currently driving technology companies.

think hard working publishers and agencies will be rewarded and we will soon see lots of companies like the Rubicon Project and Gorilla Nation. Google's new Ad Manager technology will soon enable premium ad banners to be sold directly to advertisers by publishers and when the clicks are used up on the premium ads it will revert automatically to use Google Adsense. This is a brilliant move and will further accelerate the gap between premium content and generic publishers who don't provide any unique content value.
