Santa Monica-based US Renewables Group , a private equity firm focused on renewable power, biofuels, and clean technology, said this morning it has created a new company, Westerly Wind LLC , to provide capital and expertise to developers of wind power systems. US Renewables Group is managed by Jim McDermott--who, aside from private equity experience and investment banking, was the founder of Stamps.com, Spoke Software, and Archive Inc--and Lee Bailey, formerly a partner with Rustic Canyon Partners. The firm said the new company will be headed by Joe Cofelice, who has previously served as President of Catamount Energy Corporate and CEO of American National Power, Inc.

Recently, Santa Monica-based Docstoc (www.docstoc.com) launched a new marketplace on its site, for anyone interested in selling professional documents. We finished a financing for a total of $4M recently, with top folks like Mike Jones, Brett Brewer, Kamran Pourzanjani, Matt Coffin, Robert Richards, and of course Rustic Canyon. We thought we'd get the background on the new effort directly from Jason Nazar , CEO and founder of Docstoc, to learn more about the new service. Santa Monica-based Docstoc , the online document sharing site run by Jason Nazar , is launching a new marketplace this morning which will allow users to sell their own content on the firm's site. The firm is venture backed by Rustic Canyon Ventures, Crosscut Ventures, along with local angels Matt Coffin, Robin Richards, Brett Brewer and others. According to the firm, its new Docstore will allow users to sell their professional documents from the site, splitting revenues with Docstoc. Docstoc said users will initially get 100 percent of revenue of sales of documents

Santa Monica-based venture firm Rustic Canyon , along with Intel Capital, has put more into Silicon Valley-based InSync Software , a developer of software for the RFID and supply chain tracking business. Michael Kim , a partner at Santa Monica-based Rustic Canyon Partners , is departing the firm at the end of the year to startup up a new fund-of-funds, Cendana Capital. According to Kim, he will become an Advisory Partner to Rustic Canyon, and transfer his responsibilities at Rustic Canyon by the end of the year.

Santa Monica-based DECA has raised $10M in a new round of funding worth $10M, according to a regulatory filing. The funding was led by new investor Rustic Canyon Partners, with participation from Series A investors Atomico, General Catalyst Partners, and Mayfield Fund. The firm's CEO, Michael Wayne, confirmed the funding with socalTECH, but said that the company would not be making any official comments until a formal announcement next month. DECA is a digital media studio which produces online video content.

Santa Monica-based Docstoc , the venture funded web-document sharing firm run by Jason Nazar, has connected the firm's document sharing service with Facebook and Twitter updates. Docstoc is venture backed by Rustic Canyon Partners, along with local angel investors. The new features allow users to automatically post a link in the Facebook social networking site or the Twitter micro-blogging service with any upload or download of a document. Santa Monica-based DocStoc , the online document sharing site run by Jason Nazar, just released a new feature Thursday afternoon, DocStoc Collections , which allows users to create their own groupings of documents by topic. DocStoc is venture backed by Rustic Canyon Partners.

Santa Monica-based Docstoc , the document sharing site run by Jason Nazar, said this afternoon that it has officially come out of its public beta. DocStoc, which is venture funded by Rustic Canyon Partners, also said that it has redesigned its home page to feature documents by breaking news and most sought-after professional documents, and added a new API which allows developers to upload, convert documents, and manage documents from third party products or services. Along with the official launch, the firm said that it has rolled out a new revenue sharing agreement--DocCash--which will split Google AdSense revenue with people who upload documents to the site.
