That works like Docstoc, which is now probably the fastest growing web site for small businesses. We finished a financing for a total of $4M recently, with top folks like Mike Jones, Brett Brewer, Kamran Pourzanjani, Matt Coffin, Robert Richards, and of course Rustic Canyon. Recently, Santa Monica-based Docstoc (www.docstoc.com) launched a new marketplace on its site, for anyone interested in selling professional documents. We thought we'd get the background on the new effort directly from Jason Nazar , CEO and founder of Docstoc, to learn more about the new service.

The firm said the round was led by Tribune Company, and also included Trinity Ventures, Rustic Canyon Partners, and Idealab. Perfect Market said that the Tribune Company has been using its product on a number of its web properties. Altadena-based Perfect Market , which is developing technology to help publishers monetize their long tail content, confirmed today that it has raised $6M in a Series C funding round. According to Perfect Market, the new funding will go to market and deploy its solutions.

Los Angeles-based Leads360 reported today that it has linked its sales lead management software with offerings from web-based mortgage software firm Optimal Blue . Leads360 is backed by Rustic Canyon Partners, and is headed by Dan Morefield, who was CIO of Overture Services before its acquisition by Yahoo. Leads360 said that its software--used to manage sales leads from online channels--will help mortgage lenders using Optimal Blue's software to close the gap between leads and revenue. Business details of the integration were not announced.

Last week I hosted a panel of Los Angeles Venture Capitalists with Jim Armstrong (Clearstone Ventures), Mark Suster (GRP), David Travers (Rustic Canyon), and Brian Garrett (Crosscut Ventures). If you’re about to start a web based business, consider building websites or applications that aren’t going to need a lot of capital before they start making money. There has been a lot of conjecture about how the Venture community will respond to the economic downturn. My personal opinion is that its going to be bad, really bad.

Los Angele-based Leads360 , a developer of web-based, lead management software, is powering a new feature in Google's Adwords program, the firm said Tuesday. Leads360 is backed by Rustic Canyon Partners. According to Leads360, it is working with Google to help power the new AdWords Comparison Ads feature, which allows users of Google's search engine to find and compare mortgage quotes from lenders. Financial details of the win were not disclosed, however, Leads360 said its software is being used by mortgage originators to manage inquiries generated from Google's mortgage

Santa Monica-based Docstoc , the venture funded web-document sharing firm run by Jason Nazar, has connected the firm's document sharing service with Facebook and Twitter updates. Docstoc is venture backed by Rustic Canyon Partners, along with local angel investors. The new features allow users to automatically post a link in the Facebook social networking site or the Twitter micro-blogging service with any upload or download of a document. The new features require users of Facebook to add a new application " Docstoc Updates " to their profile; the Twitter connectivity

Budzik joined Perfect Market in November, after the firm acquired Chicago-based MediaRiver, a developer of content being used to match advertising to web pages. Perfect Market is funded by Idealab, Trinity Venture, and Rustic Canyon Ventures.
Pasadena-based Perfect Market, the Idealab startup which is looking to monetize dormant content from publishers, said this morning that the firm's CTO, Dr. Jay Budzik, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, by the Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich.

Santa Monica-based Docstoc rolled out a new feature for the firm's web-based document sharing service Thursday, which allows users to embed preview links into their web pages of documents on the site. The firm's new Docshots service allows any Docstoc user to include pop-up previews of their documents, by including Javascript code on their web page. Docstoc The feature is only available to users registered with the Docstoc site. The firm is headed by Jason Nazar.

Pasadena-based Perfect Market, which is developing technology to help publishers monetize their archive content, said Monday that it has acquired technology from Mediariver, which can be used to match content and advertising to any web page. Perfect Market is venture backed by Idealab, Trinity Ventures and Rustic Canyon Ventures. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Perfect Market said that the entire MediaRiver team, including its founder and CTO, have joined the company.
