For this morning's interview, we talked with Noah Auerhahn , President of San Diego-based Extrabux (www.extrabux.com), an online site focused on providing consumers with comparison shopping combined with discount offers. Noah Auerhahn: We got started right out of USC. The site started as a concept that Jeff Nobbs, my co-founder, and myself developed We talked with Noah about how the company grew out of a business plan competition at the University of Southern California, his recent funding from the Maverick Angels, as well as how the firm hopes to stand out among a crowded list of comparison shopping sites.

Some of the school have their own Alumni group, like Marshall School of Business Alumni , also on LinkedIn and Facebook Group and a Facebook Fan Page , which has it's own events calendar and various capters, including Los Angeles , Orange County , and San Diego . This is a sister list to SoCal Networking Event Organizations and focuses on the Networking events and resources of SoCal Educational Institutions (primarily Colleges & Universities).

Here’s in Southern California, that first-rate sophisticated money includes both a good pool of venture investors (not to mention lots of transitory money from Sand Hill Road); lots of technology universities (Caltech, UCLA, USC, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, Harvey Mudd, etc. Howard Anderson, a venture capitalist at Battery Ventures and a professor at MIT, has an interesting post on GigaOM about 5 Reasons To Move Your Startup Out of Silicon Valley .

Plus, exposure through USC led me to the Tech Coast Angels. We were able to present at the screenings in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, and met lots of very interesting people who asked lots of great questions. Last Week, Calabasas-based Masher Media announced it had received a round of angel funding from the Tech Coast Angels to fund its development of MyMiniPeeps (www.myminipeeps.com), a virtual world for children.
