However, it was interesting to note that Number 1 on the list was ReachLocal , the Woodland Hills-based provider of local search advertising services — topping the list with 146,050% growth over 5 years. Semiconductors — which hasn’t seen much investment in recent years, and seems to have been mostly ignored– still seems to be powering growth rates, with San Diego’s Entropic Communications at number 5 on the list. Perusing the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 list for this year — the ranking of the fastest growing companies in North America , based on the last five years of revenue–it’s quite surprising to note the sheer number of Southern California firms listed.

Mountain View-based Intuit, which said in June that it would be laying off about 4 percent of its staff, disclosed through California WARN notices recently that it is laying off employees in Calabasas, Woodland Hills, San Diego, and Westlake Village as part of an overall, company-wide reduction. According to the notices, 29 of the employees are in San Diego, 14 in Woodland Hills, 9 in Westlake Village, and 1 in Calabasas. Beyond the first 100 companies, medical imaging firm Dicom Solutions in Irvine was at 109; Agoura Hills-based SEO provider National Positions at 112; Blackline Systems in Calabasas was at number 113, and at number 134, Irvine-based Vizio . The firm said it had 2008 revenues of $146.69M.
