Los Angeles-based Equipois , a developer of devices for providing better ergonomics, is closing on $1.25M in a Series B-1 funding round this week, the firm told socalTECH today. Tags: equipois ergonomics devices mechanical venture capital steadica The new round is being led by Penny Black. Equipois develops mechanical devices to make objects weightless, which are used by manufacturers and others to reduce workplace injuries and improve efficiency.

Among the investors who will benefit for an IPO there are VantagePoint Venture Partners, Galleon Group (yes, that Galleon), and Rho Ventures. On the VC side, two prominent local venture capital firms both have their hands in one IPO each. Late Friday night, a Silicon Valley firm, Meru Networks , whose major backer is Santa Monica-based Clearstone Ventures filed for an IPO . While the topic of career counseling is not the focus of this blog, I get enough requests from people who want to break into the VC industry, I thought it was worthwhile to write a blog entry about it so I can refer people to my viewpoint. Just a note – this is specific for early stage tech VC which is my experience (not as relevant for later stage VC/private equity or healthcare VC).
