so I feel I have an unbiased appreciation for BOTH Californias. But LA is not Silicon Valley and we don’t need to aspire to be so.  We So it’s always a trade-off.  You I believe you can attract people to relocate to Los Angeles but it’s likely that they’ll come from locations other than Northern California. Southern California Venture capital totals were up slightly in Q1 of this year from last quarter, to around $718M in deals, according to an analysis of socalTECH.com's proprietary venture database . According to numbers derived from socalTECH's venture database, there was $717.96M invested in Southern California in the first quarter, up from only $465M in Q4 of 2008. However, venture funding totals were still well off the first quarter of 2008's nearly $1.2 billion in funding.

The Technology Council of Southern California kicked off awards season last night, honoring a number of local CEOs and companies for their success in the last year. In terms of the awards, Entrepreneur of the Year went to Scott Painter , of Zag and TrueCar ; CEO of the Year went to Adam Miller of Cornerstone OnDemand .
