Last week, one of those never-ending topics of discussion came up at Twiistup on a panel about whether or not Southern California was a good place to put your startup. and David Sacks of Geni/Yammer , who were saying “maybe/no”. It was, at least for me, somewhat of a downer way to lead into the last day of Twiistup.
On one side, you had Mark Suster of GRP Partners and Mike Jones of MySpace who were saying “yes”, and on the other side, you had Jamie Montgomery of Montgomery and Co. , The issue, highlighted by Sacks’ announcement

Twiistup 6 has come to an end. Out is the “cocktail only” Twiistup and in is the new format of a conference that should take its rightful place on the national technology calendar. I believe that Twiistup is now a platform from which to grow and highlight what is uniquely LA. We Much of this was highlighted at Twiistup. ExpenseBay Wins Showoff
It proved to be a great transitional year.

West Hollywood-based Yammer , the corporate microblogging site inspired by Twitter, is moving from the Los Angeles area to Silicon Valley, according to founder David Sacks. Sacks said that Geni, which spun out Yammer, remains in West Hollywood. Sacks revealed the move at the Twiistup conference Friday, explained the move by saying that "what I miss are all the technology companies are out of there, and According to Sacks, the entire firm--including its engineering team and executive staff--is moving to the Bay Area, to be closer to the startup scene in Silicon Valley. In what was a remarkable turnout–given the horrible economy we’re in–there were more than a thousand people at last night’s Twiistup 5 event. Twiistup 5 –the brainchild of Mike Macadaan–lets startups show off their products to the crowd in a very non-conference setting (this time, a private hangar at the Santa Monica airport).
