Corbin Bowl, 19616 Ventura Blvd., Over the years, Tech Coast Angels and several venture capital firms have funded many companies that have been Fast Pitch participants. Fast Pitch events include plenty of networking time – Tech Coast Angels members, other angel investors, venture capitalists, and interested parties can meet and mingle over delicious food and beverages. Weekly updates! Please let me know if know of other items to add, or if you have any feedback on events. There's a promising new weekly morning networking event unlike any I've seen.

On Thursday, the City of Ventura is formally launching a new incubator, the Ventura Ventures Technology Center (www.v2tc.com), targeted at high tech businesses. who founded AdECN in Carpinteria, which was bought by Microsoft, is starting his second venture, Trade Desk, which is in stealth mode at the event, there's Netplenish.com, headed by Dave Compton, who founded Aqua Scientific, has a bitoech firm in Ventura, and is launching at the event.
What The incubator so far includes startups Lottay , Geodelic , and a number of other Internet and other technology firms.

For today's Insights and Opinions piece, we have an article from John Dilts , founder of the Maverick Angels and one of the co-founders of The BioTech Forum , the effort to jump start biotech startup activity in Ventura County. For the past 20 years, I have had a front row seat in watching the evolution of the angel and venture capital sector from both the legal and venture finance perspectives. There's been a lot of controversy and debate in recent months over how angel investment groups ought to be structured, if they ought to charge entrepreneurs, and other similar issues about the role of organized groups and companies in the investment process.

An interesting chart in today’s report from the NVCA on venture capital’s impact on the U.S. economy shows the aggregate amount in venture capital–in billions– invested in the U.S. other parts of the country in terms of venture activity.

It’s interesting to note that — if you look all the way back to 1970, how Southern California isn’t all that far up in the list versus Boston, the Southeast, etc.

According to a note from John Dilts, the angel group's founder and President, the move comes due to the increase in entrepreneurs coming to angel groups, given the retracting availability of funding from banks and venture capital firms. Dilts is also one of the founders of The Biotech Forum, which has been looking to boost investments and biotech related startups in the Ventura County area. Maverick Angels , one of the angel investment groups in the Los Angeles area, said this afternoon that the group is launching two new chapters, expanding into the Santa Barbara and South Bay area.

Ventura-based Lottay , an online social gifting firm, has raised $200K more, according to a regulatory filing by the firm last week. Tags: lottay online social gifts facebook gifting media venture capita No details on the funding have been announced by the company, which is backed by DFJ Frontier. Lottay allows users to gift applications on Facebook, and also allows for users to band together for group gifts.

Ventura-based Vivometrics, maker of medical monitoring technology, has raised $19.917M in funding, according to numbers released by this week's PricewaterhouseCoopers/NVCA venture capital report. Details of the funding were not disclosed. Ventura-based Aquea Scientific, which develops a UVA/UVB sunscreen which can be washed on or applied in the shower, has quietly raised $10.955M in funding. The funding was first disclosed in the PricewaterhouseCOopers/NVCA MoneyTree venture capital report over the weekend. No details of the funding have been released by the company, however, the firm is listed as a portfolio holding of the Hawaii Angels and McGovern According to regulatory filings, the funding closed sometime in the September timeframe.
